THE PUH MUSEUM
(Sakušak near Juršinci in Slovenske gorice)
The inventor Janez Puh was born in Sakušak pri Juršincih
in 1862. When he was 12, he started to learn the locksmith's
trade with different foremen. He perfected his knowledge
in Austria and Germany until 1882. After that, he started
his three-year military service in the artillery, where
he could really put in practice what he had learned,
and even more after 1885 in Graz where he repaired bicycles.
Four years later, he became independent and founded
his own company Styria Werke, where the bike Styria
was produced. In 1899 Puh with the manufacturer Werner
started the first factory bike production; in 1901 the
first motorbike with a fuel engine drove out of the
Puh's factory. Two years later the serial production
of motorbikes began, and at the same time, Puh constructed
his first automobile. The serial automobile production
started in 1906.
But for Puh staying on the ground became too restrictive;
he wanted to fly, and in 1909 a dirigible airship took
flight driven by a 25-horse powered engine, with the
propeller shaft driven by a chain.
Puh set foundations to DAIMLER PUCH business concerns.
Janez Puh died on 19 July 1914 in Zagreb and was buried
in Graz, Austria.
